About Islamic Inheritance (Faraid)
Islamic inheritance law (Ilm al-Faraid) is derived from the Quran (Surah An-Nisa 4:11-12, 4:176) and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It prescribes specific shares for designated heirs.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Learn the laws of inheritance and teach them to people, for it is half of knowledge." (Ibn Majah)
This calculator implements the rules agreed upon by the majority of Sunni scholars, with options for school-specific rulings where they differ.
