We were invited as a personal guest by Patrialis Akbar, the former Minister of Law and Human Rights (including Immigration) under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, who is now the top Constitutional Court judge of Indonesia. As an official guest we met with government officials involved in the Rohingya refugee situation such as Usman Abdullah the Mayor of Langsa; as well as leaders from other organizations involved such as Peduli Muslim, Rodja Radio, Komascipol, and others. We only visited the first 2 camps this time which are closer together.
After this visit there will be a lot of discussion on the long-term plans of supporting the Rohingya refugees in Indonesia as well as the increase in government support to help with what is already being done by the nonprofit organizations on the ground. Our current campaign at www.ussunnah.org/project/rohingya will go towards the efforts to establish long-term care for the refugees in cooperation with ACT and government plans, inshaa’ Allah.
