Have a heart like the heart of a bird. They only depend on Allah to make a living. They depend on Allah in all their affairs. This is the character of the people of heaven.
In a hadith from Abu Hurairah (may Allah blesses him), that the Prophet ﷺ says,
يدخل الجنة أقوام أفئدتهم مثل أفئدة الطير
“People whose hearts are like the hearts of birds will enter Paradise” [Saheeh Muslim].
This hadith explained with the other hadith, from Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah blesses him), that the Prophet ﷺ says,
لو أنكم تتوكلون على الله حق توكله لرزقكم كما يرزق الطير ، تغدو خماصاً وتروح بطاناً
“If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk” [At Tirmidhi, hadith hasan].
An-Nawawi says, “It is interpreted to mean they are those who rely upon Allah, or those who have soft hearts” [Riyad as-Salihin].
