Dhikr has a lot of benefits to our lives. Make dhikr a habit of yours, especially in your spare time. Because dhikr can protect you like a fortress.
In a hadith from Al Harits Al Ash’ari, that the Prophet ﷺ says,
“I command you to remember Allah, for the likeness of that is that of a man whose enemy comes after him, until he comes to a strong fortress where he protects himself from him. Similarly, a person cannot protect himself against the shaytan except by remembering Allah” [at-Tirmidhi. Al-Albani says that this hadith is saheeh].
Ibn al-Qayim explains this hadith. He says:
If there was nothing in the dhikr except for this one trait (being a protector), it would have been true for the servant that his tongue would not cease to do dhikr to Allah. And that Allah would remain accentuated by the dhikr. So he would not attain himself from his enemy (evil) except by dhikr. And the enemy would not enter upon him except as a matter of negligence, then he would observe it.
And the enemy has no chance to attack except from the door of carelessness (to do dhikr). So that the enemy is always lurking, when the person is careless, the enemy will immediately attack.[al-Wabil as-Shayyib, p. 56].
