Tawakal is relying our heart on Allah. If tawakal is in your heart, no doubt that Allah will fulfil what you need and provide you sustenance.
A hadith from ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَوَكَّلْتُمْ عَلَى اللَّهِ حَقَّ تَوَكُّلِهِ لَرَزَقَكُمْ كَمَا يَرْزُقُ الطَّيْرَ تَغْدُو خِمَاصًا وَتَرُوحُ بِطَانًا
“If you all depend on Allah with due reliance, He would certainly give you provision as He gives it to birds who go forth hungry in the morning and return with full belly at dusk” [Ahmad and at Tirmidhi. at Tirmidhi says this hadith is hasan].
Ibn Rajab al-Hambali says : “This hadith has is fundamental proposition about tawakal (relying on Allah). This hadits shows that tawakal is one big point that brings sustenance” [Jami’ al-‘Ulum wal Hikam].
This hadith does not mean that a person doesn’t work at all, being lazy, then he expects from God to provide him just like that. This is not what is meant. As Imam Al-Bayhaqi said: “this hadith means that a person should do some efforts to gain sustenance”.
So, the true tawakal is, your heart relies on Allah while you are doing some effort to gain sustenance. Don’t rely on your skills, your boses, your tools, etc. But rely only on Allah.
